Kiri Jorgensen - That's me!
One of my favorite things in the world is writing. But I also have lots of other favorite things. Just a few days ago, my husband and I, along with our two sons and our beagle Alice, floated the lower Madison river in our trusty red canoe with inner tubes tied on behind. We were racing some thunderclouds, which added to the excitement. Absolutely beautiful! I love living in Montana, where the summers are perfect, and the winters spectacular.
I'm also a teacher. I recently retired from teaching 5th grade in a small, rural, independent school district where I had lots of free rein to do what I chose - like have the students write and produce plays. Fun! I also created a unique assessment system that focused on progress and process as much as performance. My area of specialty is Gifted Education, and what I've experienced has proven that every child benefits from gifted education strategies. I get so much satisfaction from watching students progress toward their potential. I will always be a teacher.
I was raised in a great big home, in a small town on the Oregon Coast. I long for the ocean! I met my wonderful husband of almost 28 years while we were both studying at Utah State University. We have four amazing kids - our two daughters both graduated from college last year, one in Anthropology, the other Cello Performance, and two sons - one serving a mission for our church in Brazil, and one still in high school. I have learned more about everything from them than anywhere else. I love being a mom!
In my free time (chuckles) I design and sew quilts, work in the garden to grow and put up tasty veggies, help my husband with his business, read all I can, camp, hike, float, and spend time with my family. I'm a musician - both creating and performing. I also love to photograph snowflakes with a digital microscope. I guess you could call me a snowflake chaser :)
And in the middle of it all, I write.
